You might even call this a smorgasbord, as I have several small topics that don't rise to full blog status so this blog will be a mix of many updates and  small training topics!

Planning for next season, it is time to look at your supplies for next season, and while there are many purchases you will be doing between now and Spring, I would like to focus on First Aid Supplies.  Emergency Medical Responders within your park should have access to a first-aid kit with these items:

Tape
4X4 gauze pads
cold packs
King 2" and 4"
Trauma pads
Plastic for occlusive dressing
Cravats/triangular bandage
Band aids
Space blanket
Icing tubes or sugar packets
Sting foe or equivalent
Pocket light
Trauma scissors
Tweezers
Pocket pad or index cards
Mechanical Pencil
Red Marker
Blood Borne Pathogen Kit - remember these are with every first aid kit in the park.
Tourniquet
alcohol preps

Optional items:  Stethoscope, BP Cuff, Suction Device, Naso and Oropharyngeal airways, Bag-valve- mask resuscitator, SAM splints, Sterile Burn Sheet

Oxygen Set-up - ( Protected Waterfront Parks have this equipment) Regulator w/flow meter,   Extra Bottles(filled), Nasal Cannula, Non-rebreather masks, Bag-Valve Mask resuscitator ( Adult and Pediatric size)

If you have EMT's ( EMT-B or EMT-P) on staff the project may purchase items that are consistent with their skills and training.  Example - stiff neck collars, back boards and associated supplies etc.  These must not be available to personnel who do not have this level of training, so this may require removal from the vehicle when the EMT is not on duty.

First-aid kits available for use by employees only may contain: Tylenol, ibuprofen, antibiotic ointment, eyewash bottles, calamine location, hydrogen peroxide, burn ointment or similar items.  These items are not to be in kits used to treat the public.

Alcohol Preps are the only cleaning wipe that is approved - you should not have antiseptic wipes of any kind in your public kits.  These contain chemicals that people are allergic to.

Your blood borne pathogen kits contain gloves, alcohol preps, face shields, disposal bags, sharps containers, CPR mask, - see your Blood Borne Pathogen Policy for exact quantities.

Do not purchase latex gloves!   Nitrile gloves please - too many people have allergies to latex.

Do you have AEDs in your park!  Check your pads to make sure they are not expired, and replace accordingly.  Check your batteries and make sure you replace as needed.  Remember your equipment checks must be done year around - keep up your logs - I will be calling for them soon!    AED Supplies

Exciting News!  Introducing CustomGuide - On-line Microsoft Office Interactive Training.  We have purchased a 1 year license  for 10 concurrent seats where folks will be able to take training at their work location, at their own pace ( for a given period of time), and on what they need the most and have on their computer.  There will be a sign-up process for this training, much like you sign up for other training now.

Employee Viewpoint Survey!

In September we had our park level meetings to generate solutions that would address some of the themes raised in our recent employee viewpoint survey.  So what is happening now?  During the Fall Managers meeting we will be reviewing all of those solutions and determining which ones we can take immediate action on, best methods to implement the solutions, and who is going to be responsible for  implementing the initiatives.  We hope to continue to provide updates to you on this process in the blog and via other forms of communication.

We will have new on-line training courses in 2014 through Mindflash!  Make sure your Adobe Readers are updated to at least Adobe Reader X!  Get your IT work orders in now to get these updates done.

EMRs - We will be going to 6 hours of annual recert training! 2 hours will be on-line and the 4 hours in the classroom will be devoted entirely to skills! You will take your two hours of on-line instruction prior to your classroom session.
