November 12th - Interp Team Lunch & Learn - Birding 101
Location: Virtual
Do you wish you knew more about those intriguing-looking birds you spot in your backyard or on your walks? Did you know that bill size and shape is an excellent indicator for what family any given bird belongs to, as well as their diet? Field marks such as color, wing bars, bill shape, lines around the face, and other indicators are useful for identifying birds that look similar. Discuss all these topics and more with Matt Felperin, NOVA Parks’ roving naturalist in an essential guide to what you see and hear designed for both beginning birders and those who want to take their skills to the next level.
November 13th and 14th - Tree Rigging
Location: Seneca
This is a non-certification class laying out the basics of roping and rigging for the purpose of felling trees. In this course, we will cover how to create 8 basic knots, position rope in a tree, set up of a 5:1 rigging system and use a come along.
November 18th and 22nd - Off-Season Spanish Training
Location: Pocomoke
Build your confidence in working with Spanish-speakers during various park and emergency focused scenarios. This training includes a short lecture reviewing translation resources and sessions of hands-on practice for working through the English/Spanish barrier with park patrons. December 10th-13th - Certified Interpretive Guide Training
Location: Fort Frederick SP
If you work (or would like to work) at nature centers, parks, tour and cruise companies, zoos, museums, aquariums etc. helping visitors connect with our natural or cultural heritage this 32 – hour course is for you! The National Association for Interpretation (NAI) offers a professional certification program to recognize individuals who exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality interpretive services to all audiences. The goal of the CIG program is to provide consistent, high quality training for staff and volunteers on the basics of presenting interpretive programs. Certification is a way to document that you possess skills and knowledge that allow you to perform effectively in the interpretive profession.

MRPA Senior Summit

Outdoor Learning School & Store
Native American Heritage Month
Fall 2024 - Spring 2025
Beginning in the Fall and running until the Spring, this course is offered in partnership with over 50 non-profit organizations. It serves to support participants in deepening their understanding of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives while strengthening connections with the local Land and supporting more respectful, reciprocal relationships. This year of learning supports participants in deepening their foundation of knowledge of Indigenous culture, history and perspectives.
