December 6th, 9th and 10th - Off-Season Spanish Training
Build your confidence in working with Spanish-speakers during various park and emergency focused scenarios. This training includes a short lecture reviewing translation resources and sessions of hands-on practice for working through the English/Spanish barrier with park patrons. December 10th - Wooden Sign Design and CNC Machine Workshop
Location: New Germany SP
This workshop, led by Erin Thomas and Jason Thomas from New Germany will demonstrate from beginning computer design to sign construction using the CNC Machine. Erin will show the methods used to create the sign from 10:00 to 12:00 and after lunch, Jason will demonstrate how the CNC Machine is set up and used from 12:30 to 2:30. He will also discuss wood types and other machine considerations.
December 12th - 19th - Emergency Medical Responder
Location: Soldiers Delight
The Emergency Medical Response (EMR) program is an entry-level course designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to perform pre-hospital assessment and care for patients suffering from a variety of sudden illnesses and traumatic injuries. Hands-on skills practice and evaluation will include airway management, cardiac emergencies (including American Red Cross Basic Life Support training), treatment of shock, wound care, injuries to muscles and bones, and lifting/moving patients. This course utilizes an assessment-based approach to EMR concepts and is delivered in a blended learning format including online pre-courses.
Lifeguard Recertification - January 11-12, 2025
Location: Cumberland YMCA
If you are a lifeguard or have some seasonal guards that may need to get in a recertification class before their certification expires, this is a great opportunity to get in good graces with the Red Cross and get ready for the summer season.
S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws - January 13-16, 2025
Location: Elk Neck State Park
This class is for those who are interested in learning the proper techniques for felling trees along with refreshing skills in limbing and bucking. The class sign up will be posted soon.
