MCHC is proud to offer grant-funded traveling trunks, free to Maryland students, with support from the Society of Cincinnati and the Delaplaine Foundation. The Society of Cincinnati of Maryland graciously covers all costs for classrooms of Maryland students to participate in object-based learning about the American Revolution through MCHC's themed traveling trunk. The Delaplaine Foundation provides funding for Western Maryland counties (Garrett, Allegany, Washington, and Frederick) to rent any of MCHC's traveling trunks. Traveling trunks are filled with reproduction primary source artifacts and documents, shipped straight to your classroom for a three-week rental period. March 13, 2025, 5:30pm to 7:30pm: Wye Oak Lecture Series—Pulling Threads: Early Embroidery Samplers of the Historic St. James Episcopal Church
MCHC welcomes Rebecca Johns Hackett, Associate Professor of History at Baltimore City Community College, for a closer look into the newest exhibition Stitched in Favor: 200 Years of The Historic St. James Episcopal Church. St. James is the oldest Black Episcopal church south of the Mason-Dixon line and third oldest in the country. This lecture highlights the community and individuals that created the embroidered samplers stewarded by MCHC.
Doors open at 5:30 pm. Lecture begins at 6 pm. Light reception to follow.

As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary, educators play a pivotal role in sharing the era’s diverse stories. Join MCHC staff to learn about the perspectives of Marylanders, including Black soldiers, women, white Loyalists and Patriots alike. Staff will utilize the Unfinished Revolution exhibition and original primary source collections to model historical investigation, equipping educators to support classroom instruction. Evaluation for Improvement Thursday, April 10, 2025 10:00am Pacific/1:00pm Eastern One use for evaluation is to improve products such as exhibits, programs, and written communication. Knowing your goal and objectives and then designing questions to measure success toward meeting those is a skill that improves with practice. We will work with best practices to write questions which give meaningful and usable information. Emphasis is on development evaluation tools which give practical and usable information and not statistical analysis. |
