Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Workshop 

April 24-25 8:30- 4:30 p.m. 

Kent County, Md 

This two day workshop is geared towards landowners but many MFS and WHS employees have attended in the past. Christ Roberston says that any employees that want to learn more about prescribed fires would benefit. When this workshop is combined with  3 years of experience you can legally organize and run a prescribed burn in Maryland. 

Classroom and field experience on prescribed fire as a safe and cost-effective land stewardship practice.

Participants will complete the 16 hours of training that is needed to be a burn boss in Maryland.

April 24, 8:30 - 4:30 Classroom learning.
April 25, 8:30 to TBD. Hands-on field-based learning.
Weather permitting, class will conduct a prescribed fire.

Reptile and Amphibian Handling and Care for Veterinary Staff and Wildlife Rehabbers 

Sat June 21 & Sun June 22 9 - 4 p.m. 

Reptiles and amphibians (herpetofauna) often need specialized care to thrive in captivity, even short term. Knowing the biology and natural history of these animals is vital to provide quality care. This two-day course will provide a detailed exploration of reptiles and amphibians, how they live in the wild, and current best practices for captive care.

This 2-day (12 hour) course is designed for veterinary staff, volunteers, wildlife rehabbers, wildlife and fisheries professionals, and herp owners, the course will cover:

• Biology and Behavior of native and exotic herps
• Diseases and treatments
• Food acquisition and choices
• Venomous snake restraint
• Captivity and Conservation

A training clinic is being offered to educate first responders, horse owners or anyone interested in learning basic large animal rescue techniques instructed by Fair Hill Emergency Response Team.

 

Please bring your own drinks. Thank you, Large Animal Protection Society for allowing us to use your facility.

 

Do you know what to do in a large animal emergency?  Are you prepared with equipment, know who to call, what to do? Whether you are a public safety official, a first responder, a veterinary professional, or an equestrian, this course is essential to prepare you for an emergency.  You will learn how to move large animals safely and quickly in cases of disaster or injury, while preventing potential injuries to the humans involved.  The course offers instruction and hands-on scenarios using specialized equipment and equipment that may be readily available to first responder departments.

 

Registration is limited so please register early. The cost is $50 per person. First responders and veterinarian professionals are $25 per person. Dress appropriately, inside area available for inclement weather. Please bring leather gloves and safety/riding helmet.
