1-day professional development seminars. These programs are hosted by MPCTC in partnership with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) at the Public Safety Education & Training Center (PSETC) in Sykesville. The courses each run 8:30am-4:00pm and are approved for 6 hours of in-service credits. Topics and dates are listed below; the full list of 1-day seminars plus other leadership training is available on the Leadership Development Institute website.

Making Effective Presentations
April 13, 2026This course is designed to enable the student to learn to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver effective oral presentations. Topics to be covered include dealing with anxiety, audience analysis, presentation planning, and engaging the audience.
Customer Service
April 21, 2026
This course is designed to enable public safety practitioners to learn to deal directly with customers. The course will examine a methodology for handling customer objections and the skills required to provide solutions to service issues and problems with upset individuals. Topics to be covered include types of difficult customers, assessing customer discontent, strategies for dealing with upset customers, and balancing organization and customer interests.
Managing Multiple Priorities
April 23, 2026
This course is designed to enable the student, who works in an office setting, to learn about approaches to managing the many different priorities encountered in the workplace. Topics to be covered include tools and tips for prioritizing work, communicating needs and assessing urgency, and activities to highlight the importance of skillful time and priority management.
Emotional Intelligence
April 28, 2026
This course is designed to enable the student to develop personal leadership skills and enhance their ability to develop effective, productive workplace relationships that they can apply in their position as manager or supervisor. Topics to be covered include: defining emotional intelligence (EQ), personal competence, and social competence; self-awareness; and techniques to more effectively manage one’s self and their working relationships.
