Maryland Conservation Corps - Now Hiring!

The Maryland Conservation Corps (MCC) is currently recruiting! This phenomenal program provides numerous opportunities for members to learn and improve on skills relevant to natural resource management in Maryland while helping to enhance parks and public lands.

Under the supervision of experienced Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff, MCC members work in crews of 4-7 members. From State parks and forests to the Chesapeake Bay, they are engaged in projects in Maryland's most beautiful places.

In an average year, MCC members will:

• 
  Plant thousands of trees
• Maintain hundreds of miles of trails
• Work with schools to plant bay grasses
• Restore wildlife habitat
• Conduct interpretive programs in State Parks
• Support the improvement of the Chesapeake and Coastal Bays
• Improve park nature centers
• Help preserve Maryland’s rich historical heritage
• Provide environmental education programming for roughly 10,000 Maryland students

Qualifications:​​

• 
  Be 17 to 25 years of age.
• Be a United States citizen.
• Have a high school diploma or be willing to work toward a GED.
• Have a desire to work in conservation.
• Be willing to work in all kinds of outdoor conditions.
• Be willing to camp for up to a week at a time.
• Be a team player.
• Have a positive attitude.

Benefits for AmeriCorps members participating in the Maryland Conservation Corps program include:​

• 
  A bi-weekly living allowance​​
• Health care benefits
• Child care assistance (if eligible)
• As a first or second year member, an AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,495 is offered; the award may be used toward school tuition, most federally approved student loans, or future education costs for up to seven years (contact your loan holder to see if your loan qualifies; private loans may not be eligible)
• Low-cost park housing at certain MCC crew sites
• Professional skills training and development that make members competitive in the green careers field

MCC members receive extensive skill development training opportunities, which may include:

• 
  36-hour Comprehensive First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers  
• 40-hour Wildland Fire Fighting certification
• Environmental Education and Interpretation
• Chainsaw Skills and Safety
• Leave N​o Trace ethics
• Trail maintenance, monitoring and construction
• Canoe Trip Leading by certified instructors
• Foundation for Search Operations training
