Evaluating Natureness - free webinar November 1, 2023
Join the National Association of Interpretation’s (NAI) Outreach Committee for NAI Chesapeake for a free virtual presentation. Dr. Patti Bailie will be presenting on how naturalists, interpreters and environmental educators can measure the impact of their programming. The presentation will take place November 1 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm Eastern. There will be an open chat and Q&A following the presentation. This is open to all – NAI members and non-members. Feel free to spread the word and invite friends and colleagues.
Chesapeake Bay Environmental Literacy Educator Training (EnLET)
The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Literacy Educator Training (EnLET) program at SERC sponsors regular educator professional development opportunities. Trainings center on environmental issues in the Chesapeake Bay related to SERC research, and use a place-based context to connect these issues to local ecology, economy, and culture.

Wetlands of the Chesapeake Bay, October 26-27, 2023
Are you an informal educator in the Chesapeake Bay region interested in learning more about the science of wetlands? Join SERC educators for a two-day workshop focused on wetlands of the Chesapeake Bay region. We'll explore the ecological importance of wetlands, focusing on research being conducted at SERC's Global Change Research Wetland. Additionally, we'll hear from outside experts who will share on some of the social and economic importance of wetlands. The workshop will include hands-on activities and datasets that can be brought back to your classroom.
Workshop Details:
- 9:00 am - 3:30 pm each day
- Designed for informal educators
- Breakfast and lunch included
- Lodging available at no cost for out-of-town participants
- $300 stipend available for participation
- Additional stipend available for educational activity development

Cultural competency and humility are required for all aspects of life and work when we care about diversity, inclusion and belonging. Our awareness, knowledge, and skills in understanding different cultures is key to engaging with more diverse audiences. We must understand our own lenses to the world and be clear on where our assumptions about others might affect our approaches to hiring, relevancy, working with constituents and partners, and improving internal work culture, just to name a few. In this webinar, we’ll touch on the differences between cultural competence and cultural humility and what it means for the work in conservation.
