Information about this year’s Summit:
ACCELS was created to provide an opportunity for CLEAN Network members and others involved in climate and energy education to gather, share and learn, and, most importantly, explore collaborations for the next year. ACCELS provides space to come together to develop a learning and action network that can advance future programming with a shared awareness of what others are doing, explore opportunities to collaborate, and orient our collective efforts towards systemic change. We've shifted the design of the 2023 ACCEL Summit to feature working groups who will meet regularly between November's kick off event and a culminating event in Spring 2024. We put out a call for proposals to members of the CLEAN community to propose topics and ideas they would like to lead working groups on. We received submissions focusing on DEI and climate action, climate communication, climate change and mental health, assessment of climate understanding, and rural climate education practices. We will also give space for discussion of other topics of interest not represented in these working groups. In this launch event, we invite members of our community to join these working groups with the goal of providing opportunities for networking and collaboration, and to push forward on topics that our community has identified as priority areas.
At the end of the registration process, you will be asked to contribute a small registration fee to help sustain this effort. As a part of the registration process, you will also be asked questions about your work and interests which will help us keep the ACCELS Matrix up to date.
The agenda features lighting talks from our working group leaders in addition to a panel of climate literacy experts including Ellen Ebert, Emily Fano, and Zakhia Grant on building subnational partnerships for climate action within and outside of education systems.

There is growing research on the effects of working in the conservation and the environment on mental health. In the Sand County Almanac, Aldo Leopold wrote, “One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise.” This workshop is designed to provide a dialogic space to explore the essence of this sentiment.
It is important to have places to discuss the lived experience of those on the front line of climate change. In this workshop, we will discuss how people are affected by ecological changes such as climate change, natural disasters, and species loss. We will discuss the various natural emotional responses associated with grief, loss, anxiety, and trauma due to these climate realities. In addition, we will encourage actions that can be taken to move these emotions into useful behaviors for the well-being of people and the planet.
The objectives of the course are to:
Define terms related to climate change and mental health like; eco-anxiety, eco-grief, climate crisis, resilience, hope, and encouragement
Examine normal emotional reactions associated with climate issues
Encourage participants to explore activism while also caring for themselves
Learn tools for resilience for themselves and their coworkers as we all navigate future climate issues.

Join your colleagues and friends at the MWMC eDNA Workshop on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the USGS Water Science Center in Catonsville. Six eDNA researchers will share their experiences, knowledge, and wisdom on a range of topics that include development of eDNA as a monitoring tool, field and lab best practices, eDNA results interpretation and how to communicate them, and case studies of how eDNA is/can be used for natural resource management.
Time is set aside for a roundtable discussion with the speakers, so bring your ideas and your questions and let’s explore the new tool in our assessment toolbox!
There is no fee for this workshop (lunch is on your own). Stay tuned for a second announcement with more details and a registration link.

There are six sections, each containing a brief quiz that must receive a passing score of 80% before moving on to the next section. You will have only 3 attempts to pass the quiz. In order to move forward to a new section, you must also thoroughly read and complete the activities in each section.
You can leave the course and return at a later time, picking up where you leave off. You can return to a previous section of the course to review material if necessary.
