Registration is now open for the first-ever Maryland Outdoor Recreation Summit this October 9-11, 2024 at Rocky Gap Casino and Resort! Hosted by the Maryland Office of Recreation and Maryland DNR.
This inaugural event is an opportunity to come together for exciting conversations on the importance of outdoor recreation for Maryland’s environment, workforce, quality of life and economy. It is catered to outdoor industry enthusiasts including non-profits, community organizations, private businesses, university students, and public decision-makers.
Here are a few reasons to attend:

Amphibians 101

Amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, efts, and caecilians) are incredibly diverse and incredibly imperiled. According to the IUCN, 43% of the world’s amphibians are in catastrophic decline or already extinct, more than birds and mammals combined.

- anatomy
- conservation and emerging fungal threats
- captive care and housing from basic to advanced
Special emphasis will be placed on the amphibians native to Maryland. The course is designed to support professional animal care staff, nature center staff, and amateur herpetologists, although it is open to anyone interested in amphibians.

Maryland Costal Training Program
Planning for Coastal Flood Impacts

The Maryland Coastal Training Program is pleased to announce we will be hosting Planning for Coastal Flood Impacts on Oct 9th, Oct 11th, Oct 18th, and Oct 23rd.
In this two hour training, participants will:
- Develop a common understanding of coastal flood impacts and sea level rise and utilize Maryland specific resources.
- Understand the MD Nuisance Flood Plan mandate (October 2025), learn about the updated recommendations and determine how those apply to your jurisdiction.
- Become familiar with the Maryland 2023 Sea Level Rise Projections and how to use the 2024 MD Sea Level Rise Guidance Document to plan for future impacts.
- Explore case studies to understand, plan, and implement projects to reduce the impacts of coastal flood risk
- Understand potential funding sources to plan for and implement projects that address current and future flood impacts.
