Empower yourself to act when seconds count. Chesapeake Employers Insurance is offering a Crisis Ready training class exclusively to our customers. This class is designed to prepare civilians for life-threatening emergencies and blends the proven strategies of Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.) with the life-saving techniques of Stop the Bleed. C.R.A.S.E.: This training will arm participants with the information they need to know to protect themselves and others around them in those crucial first 3 minutes, should they be caught in a critical incident involving an active shooter. This presentation is an overview of real-world scenarios, the body’s disaster response system and how it affects decision-making during high-stress incidents, and how to understand evacuation, lockdown, and survival strategies designed and built on an “avoid, deny and defend” strategy developed by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT). Stop the Bleed: Participants will learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it with certain hands-on techniques. Attendees will gain confidence in recognizing threats, using your hands to apply direct pressure to a wound, packing a wound to control bleeding, applying a tourniquet, and making split-second decisions that save lives through strategies developed by The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. The Baltimore County Peer Support and Wellness Team is hosting two Struggle Well training opportunities in March and April.
Struggle Well is a comprehensive approach that focuses on the transformation of the active serving military and first responder culture, rather than the implementation of another wellness program. Struggle Well training is guided by two objectives: normalizing the struggles that are a part of every service member and first responder’s life, and democratizing their ability to struggle well. Struggle Well trains active serving military units and first responder agencies so participants are able to transform struggle into strength and growth, and be of better service to themselves, their family, community, and country.
Struggle Well training enables participants to develop a plan for personal growth by transforming their struggle into strength through training in six main areas:
Trust and Connection: Recognizing the importance of trust and how to foster deep and meaningful connections.
Education: Identifying the physical, psychological, and spiritual impacts of stress; examining the ways in which struggle can lead to growth and transformation.
Regulation: Adopting mental, physical, financial, and spiritual wellness practices to regulate thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Disclosure: Developing ways to self-disclose personal experiences which can be effective in strengthening interpersonal relationships.
Story: Creating a positive, forward-looking personal story that integrates past, present, and future.
Service: Developing a new plan to provide service to their family, workplace, and community.
Who Should Attend: This training is beneficial and relevant to the challenges faced by first responders, as well as to mental health professionals seeking cultural competence in treating them. It also supports non-sworn and professional staff who experience personal or vicarious impacts from critical incidents.
