In collaboration with George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC) is a proud partner and host site for the George Washington Teacher Institute 250 on Saturday, May 30, from 10am to 4pm. This one-day workshop will welcome educators to explore the legacy of America’s first president and his connections to Maryland’s history. Author Ramin Ganeshram will present her research on Chef Hercules Posey and foodways of enslaved African Americans and mixed-race people in early America. This program is eligible for MSDE Professional Development Points.

Offered in partnership with The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience ("the Coalition" or "ICSC"), this course will provide an introduction of frameworks and tools Coalition members use to build just and humane futures out of stories of harm. The Coalition is a global network of over 350 museums, historic sites, memorials and memory initiatives in 66 countries dedicated to transforming places that preserve the past into spaces that promote civic action.
