Working outdoors can expose employees to a variety of environmental hazards, especially during the summer months. Heat, sun exposure, uneven surfaces, and changing weather conditions can increase the risk of illness and injury if proper precautions are not taken.

June is a great time to reinforce safe outdoor work practices as temperatures rise and more work shifts outside. Taking a proactive approach to heat stress, hydration, and situational awareness can help protect your employees and keep operations running safely. Attached are resources to help support safer outdoor work practices in your workplace.

Here are a few simple ways to promote safe outdoor work practices in your organization:

  • Encourage employees to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas, and recognize early signs of heat-related illness.

  • Visit Safety Center by logging into your eServices account to access tools, training materials, and on-demand content focused on heat stress prevention, outdoor hazard awareness, and seasonal safety topics.

  • Remind supervisors to monitor weather conditions, adjust work schedules when possible, and ensure employees have appropriate protective equipment such as sunscreen, hats, and high-visibility clothing.

  • Join us on June 30th to attend our brand-new webinar, Turning Safety Talks into Safety Behaviors with Frontline Employees. Attendance is free but registration is required at www.ceiwc.com/safety-resources/seminars-and-trainings.

The SERMA Risk Management team is here to support your workers’ compensation and safety needs. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or if we can assist you further.
