Non-MPS Trainings:

Our partners with the Baltimore County Police Peer Support and Wellness Team will be hosting two 2-Day Boulder Crest Struggle Well trainings in November and one 5-Day Boulder Crest Struggle Well training in December. Please see below for additional information and locations.

Struggle Well is a comprehensive approach that focuses on the transformation of the active serving military and first responder culture, rather than the implementation of another wellness program. Struggle Well training is guided by two objectives: normalizing the struggles that are a part of every service member and first responder’s life, and democratizing their ability to struggle well. Struggle Well trains active serving military units and first responder agencies so participants are able to transform struggle into strength and growth, and be of better service to themselves, their family, community, and country.

Struggle Well training enables participants to develop a plan for personal growth by transforming their struggle into strength through training in six main areas:

- Trust and Connection: Recognizing the importance of trust and how to foster deep and meaningful connections.
- Education: Identifying the physical, psychological, and spiritual impacts of stress; examining the ways in which struggle can lead to growth and transformation.
- Regulation: Adopting mental, physical, financial, and spiritual wellness practices to regulate thoughts, feelings, and actions.
- Disclosure: Developing ways to self-disclose personal experiences which can be effective in strengthening interpersonal relationships.
- Story: Creating a positive, forward-looking personal story that integrates past, present, and future.
- Service: Developing a new plan to provide service to their family, workplace, and community.

The two-day training allows for those in attendance to develop an understanding of Post-Traumatic Growth and the six main areas identified above. The five-day allows those in attendance to dive deeper into the topics and activities that are offered. Anyone who has previously attended the two-day course is welcome to attend the five-day to continue working on the areas of growth started during the two-day. The two-day is not a prerequisite for the five-day, and all are welcome to attend.

"The Transformation of Hunting and Forest Management in the Early 20th Century U.S. South" with Julia Brock

October 6, 2025

1-2 PM ET

In her new book Closed Seasons: The Transformation of Hunting in the Modern South, historian Julia Brock traces the creation and evolution of game and fish laws in the Deep South from the Progressive Era to the 1930s, with a close eye on the social imagination of conservation advocates, the response by everyday southerners, the changing field of wildlife science, and the increasing role of the federal government in wildlife protection. She’ll introduce these themes in her talk and also consider how forestry and forestry laws were featured—or not—in the new game and fish commissions established in this era.

Julia Brock is an associate professor of history at the University of Alabama, where she coordinates a Public History Concentration. Closed Seasons: The Transformation of Hunting in the Modern South (UNC Press 2025) is her first book and is now available from the publisher.

This webinar is approved for 1 hour of CFE credit from the Society of American Foresters!
